Linear Content Creation in Unreal Engine

This is a short term intermediate level course of unreal engine.

In this course you will learn how to use unreal engine in 3d animation films and tv shows.

Pre requisites:

  • Good understanding of any DCC application – Maya, Blender, Houdini
  • Basics of Unreal Engine
  • Working experience of traditional 3d pipeline.
  • Good understanding of offline renderers like Arnold, renderman, Vray

ABOUT INSTRUCTOR

Unreal Authorised Instructor Mr. Rajiv Sharma will be the instructor of this course. He have hands on experience of unreal engine in films and tv show production. During the entire course he will share his practical experience along with production tips and techniques.

CLASS 1. INTRODUCTION TO UNREAL ENGINE

In this class we will cover over all introduction of unreal engine.

Key topics will be:

  • Installation of unreal engine
  • User interface
  • Shortcuts
  • files and folder structure
  • perforce version control system
  • overall terminologies inside unreal engine
  • Important project and engine settings inside unreal engine

CLASS 2. ASSETS ASSEMBLY IN UNREAL ENGINE

In this class we will cover:

Maya to Unreal Engine workflow

  • How to export static assets
  • How to export animated characters
  • How to export CFX
  • How to export shaders and textures
  • Maya Live Link workflow

Unreal Engine Workflow

  • All exported content from maya assemble inside unreal engine
  • Create new level/map
  • Create Groups and layers

CLASS 3. ANIMATION AND SEQUENCER IN UNREAL ENGINE

In this class we will cover:

  • How to setup Master Sequencer and Level Sequencer
  • How to add animated mesh in sequencer timeline
  • How to animate parameters in sequencer
  • How to add new cine camera actor and import camera animation from maya
  • How to organize sequence and shots

CLASS 4. LIGHTING AND LOOKDEV IN UNREAL ENGINE

In this class we will cover:

  • How to create new materials.
  • How to apply substance textures in materials with physical properties like sub surface or IOR.
  • How to use Virtual Textures
  • How to create different types of sky and clouds
  • How to lights in unreal engine

CLASS 5. HIGH QUALITY RENDER OUTPUT IN UNREAL ENGINE

In this class we will cover:

  • How to use post processing volume
  • Rendering related projects settings
  • How to optimize rendering time
  • How to deal with noise and artifacts in renders
  • All settings inside Movie Render Queue
  • How to create and reuse rendering presets

We will teach how to use Unreal Engine 5.0 for lighting, look development and rendering of 3d animation projects.
This will be a 5 day course. Each class duration will be 1.5 hours for lecture and 30 min for Q&A
